A few days ago, a proposed power interconnection project between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan (referred to as TAP) has signed a framework agreement.
The TAP Power Interconnect project aims to pave the way for the provision of long-term power supply, support the energy needs of Afghanistan and promote the power trade and exchange between the three countries.
The power interconnection project will include the construction of about 500 kilometers of transmission lines. Once completed, these lines will transport up to 4 GW of electricity from Turkmenistan to the other two countries.
The Asian Development Bank will help coordinate project planning and financing, and promote negotiations on energy trade between the three countries.
