Date: January 3th 2017

Ethiopia's Ministry of Water and Power has announced that in 2017 Ethiopia will launch a number of renewable energy projects, the cumulative installed capacity of over 5,000 megawatts.

At present, 19 renewable energy projects have started the preparatory work, including hydropower, solar power, wind power and geothermal power generation.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources introduced in 2017, the country will add eight hydropower projects, the cumulative installed capacity of 3879 MW, four geothermal energy projects, the cumulative installed capacity of 570 MW, three solar power plant projects, the cumulative installed capacity of about 300-400 Megawatts, and four wind power projects.

At the same time, the government will also provide subsidies to renewable energy projects to a certain extent, so as to further encourage the development of renewable energy. The construction of these projects not only to meet domestic electricity demand, but also to enable Ethiopia to develop into the East African renewable energy hub.

For a cheaper electricity power price, the government and electricity company also plans to upgrade their facilities with cable of better conductivity and energy saving performance. BTW these cables are exactly our company could supply and happy to provide at a competitive price to help our Africa friends.
