Bangladesh and China will cooperate to build a 1320 MW coal-fired power plant. This project is part of the Bangladesh government's realization of the electricity plan for all.
"The government is confident that it will achieve full coverage of the nation's electricity by 2021, and we have implemented projects to ensure energy security," said Nasrul Hamid, Minister of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh.
Nasrul said coal-fired power plants will be built near Payra's harbor by Bangladesh Rural Power and China North Industries International.
According to the project, this is a two-unit ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant, costing $ 2 billion, 50% stake in the two sides.
Power generation capacity of 660 megawatts of the first unit will be put into operation in 2022, and the second unit will be opened in 2023.
Nasrul noted that the government's goal is to achieve 24,000 megawatts of generating capacity by 2021 to improve the living and living standards of poor and vulnerable communities.
